Job Posting
The City of Murfreesboro is offering a position within the Planning Department. This role is full-time and the salary is $65,689 annually. The position is located in Murfreesboro, TN.
This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide technical, administrative, and planning-related support.
Essential functions include :
Communicating with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
Reviewing preliminary and final plats, site plans, and architectural elevations to ensure compliance with the City's Subdivision Regulations, Zoning Ordinance, and Design Guidelines.
Assisting customers in interpreting the Zoning Ordinance to address their specific needs and project requirements.
Preparing legal notices and notifying the public of public hearings for Planning Commission and City Council meetings regarding rezoning and annexation of property. Making various maps using GIS software.
Responding to public inquiries regarding zoning classifications, potential violations, and flood hazard areas; providing zoning verification letters and other written correspondence as requested.
Conducting research on planning-related topics, including surveying practices in other municipalities, and drafting reports for the Planning Director's review.
Presenting planning-related items before the City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Historic Zoning Commission as needed.
Reviewing applications for special use permits and variances; preparing detailed staff reports for the Board of Zoning Appeals. Evaluating applications for administrative renewal of special use permits.
Reviewing and processing building permit applications for single-family residential homes and accessory structures. Reviewing and processing food truck permit applications.
Additional duties include performing other work as assigned and physical demands such as standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, and intermittently lifting objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
Minimum education and experience requirements include a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, a bachelor's or master's degree in urban planning or public administration, one (1) year of experience in urban planning or public administration, and bilingual proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
Special certifications and licenses required include a valid driver's license.
