Must be current CNA with at least 6 months of experience as a Restorative Aide

POSITION TITLE : Restorative Aide

REQUIREMENTS :

A. Certified Nursing Assistant with interest in Restorative / Functional Nursing Care.

B. Ability to communicate in writing : Ability to adequately record resident responses to treatment.

C. Ability to communicate verbally and to foster good interpersonal relationships; to obtain resident’s cooperation, respect and confidence.

D. Attentiveness and dependability; to operate equipment properly and to observe safety precautions.

E. Possess good, stable health and endurance both physically and emotionally.

F. Willingness to work with specialized therapy personnel in learning new skills to aid the resident in adapting within his / her abilities.

G. Performs rehabilitation procedures for identified residents to maintain the highest functional lever; promotes continuity on the nursing units between Nursing and Therapy recommendations in accordance with established policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS :

Responsible to the Director of Nursing

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

A. Treats residents according to the resident’s Care Plan and as instructed by the Physical or Occupational Therapist.

B. Follow established procedures pertaining to rehabilitative treatment protocols.

C. Maintains adequate records of treatments and resident responses.

D. Maintains and promotes a safe environment during treatment through the use of transfer belts, adaptive equipment, and the assistance of other personnel.

E. Reports changes in resident condition to the Director of Nursing or Therapist.

F. Assists with orientation and in-service.

G. Requests resident assessments by the therapist (s) as indicated.

H. Assesses condition of wheelchairs and need for adaptive equipment, referring findings to maintenance personnel, therapist and / or Director of Nursing as necessary.

I. Serves as a resource for CNA’s in positioning, transferring and ambulation techniques.

J. Understands the performance requirements of the Certified Nursing Assistants.

OTHER PERTINENT FACTS :

A. Stands and walks short distances most of the day.

B. Expends much energy and strength in exercising resident, lifting, and supporting residents.

C. Subject to rapid and sometimes aggressive mood changes in residents, requiring ability to respond quickly and appropriately.

D. Sensitive to the needs of the confused and / or frightened resident.
