- The YMCA is an Equal Opportunity Employer that celebrates diversity at all levels of our organization! This position is for non-trained Swim Instructor candidates of any age. Full salary range is $20.24-21.25. Once fully trained, the employee will be promoted to a Swim Instructor. Hiring range for a Swim Instructor is $20.24 - $21.89. Position Summary : Assist a certified Swim Instructor throughout swimming classes / programs. Provide leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in YMCA Swim Lesson programs. Job Duties / Responsibilities : Assist in instructing swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines Develop positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance Encourage member and parent involvement and recruits potential volunteers Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs Assist in maintaining records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.) Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, complete incident and accident reports as necessary Organize and puts away needed class equipment, report damaged equipment Completion of YMCA specific training / certifications as directed Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications : Minimum age 16 + Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards : Swim 150 yards - 25 yards front crawl - 25 yards breast stroke - 25 yards back crawl - 25 yards butterfly - 25 yards side stroke - 25 yards elementary backstroke Tread water for 2 minutes using breast stroke and scissor kicks, eggbeater kick is optional but desiredPerform continuous CPR for at least 2 minutes Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness Work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions Fluency in second language desired Y Culture : Build relationships with a diverse membership base in culturally responsive ways, connect members with one another and to the YMCA Exhibit Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility Complete required training and certifications within established guidelines Arrive on time ready for shift, clock in / out within timekeeping system Embrace Leader Core Competencies : Mission Advancement : Accepts and demonstrates the Ys values Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs Recruits volunteers and builds effective, supportive working relationships with them Supports fundraising Collaboration : Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinion, and perceptions Builds rapport and relates well to others Seeks first to understand the other persons point of view and remains calm in challenging situations Listens for understanding and meaning; speaks and writes effectively Takes initiative to assist in developing others Operational Effectiveness : Makes sound judgments, and transfers learning from one situation to another Embraces new approaches and discovers ideas to create a better member experience Establishes goals, clarifies tasks, plans work, and actively participates in meetings Follows budgeting policies and procedures, and reports all financial irregularities immediately Strives to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience for members Personal Growth : Pursues self-development that enhances job performance Demonstrates an openness to change and seeks opportunities in the change process Accurately assesses personal feelings, strengths, and limitations and how they impact relationships Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-the-date knowledge and skills in technology
