Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Head Start Education Supervisor Teacher, the Head Start Master Teacher is responsible for monitoring of teaching staff and as a Practice Base Coaching for quality improvements. Theroleof theMaster Teacher is to provide and maintain high levels of quality by supportingHead Start teachers. The primaryroleis to visit classrooms and coach teachersby using a reflective practice in CLASS / Creative Curriculum and role modeling to improve instruction. This position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining CLASS / TSG systems that support; developmentally appropriate early child practices, performance standards, positive behavioral support and outcomes that provide a rich learning experience for the children and families served based on knowledge of; early childhood theories, practices, Federal, Tribal and local regulations. Must coordinate with the Family, Mentor Teacher, Disabilities Advocate to meet the requirements for all education and child development services as defined in the Head Start Performance Standards and other regulations to ensure that the classroom staff effectively implements services to all children and families enrolled in the Head Start Program that are developmentally appropriate and responsive to their needs following the program goals, objectives, Head Start Performance Standards, School Readiness Goals, Head Start Framework and Teaching Strategies Goal curriculum guidelines. This will enable the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony to maintain high quality early childhood education services and to promote staff career development in Head Start.
Duties
- Monitor classroom and staff compliance with all Head Start regulations as related to classroom services provided to the children and families and the classroom environment is safe, healthy, conducive to learning and the children are provided opportunities that will help them develop physically, socially, cognitively, and emotionally
- Assist in Head Start Administration planning.Is responsible for tracking all training provided to Head Start staff and will develop and assist the Mentor Teacher in building skills and education through an approved PDP / Nevada Registry training plan that is reviewed and updated annually and in collaboration with other administrative staff; make arrangements for staff training based the needs of staff on review of their performance and parents needs to develop appropriate training goals and plans.
- Ensure that the program environment helps children develop emotional security and social relationships by enhancing each child’s understanding of self as an individual and as a member of a group and develop a system for positive outcomes to ensure classrooms are providing individual and small group experiences for all children, both indoors and outdoors using various strategies including experimentation, inquiry, observation, play and exploration and Positive Behavioral Support strategies to promote and support each child’s learning and progress using observations and ongoing assessment of each child, and providing each child with opportunities for success to help develop feelings of competence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes toward learning.
- Ensure that classroom staff are coordinating with other staff to plan; program environment, schedules, electronic and written lesson plans and other activities to be implemented daily in the classroom as outlined in the Creative Curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards; and review them monthly to determine effectiveness and assist in making sure the daily nutrition program provided to the children is developmentally appropriate and meets the Head Start Performance guidelines.
- Participate in and emphasize developmentally appropriate practice by using resources, technology, and training programs.
- Provides and demonstrates activities in all aspects of early literacy, language and cognitive development according to the Program’s use of Creative Curriculum along with the inclusion of specific cultural requirements to the curriculum and; models best practices of early childhood education
- Collaborate with Mentor Teacher, Disability Advocate and other programs to provide high quality services to the children and families and must be able to work with agencies to meet the needs of children with disabilities.
- Must accurately track, record, document, and monitor on a weekly basis; classroom files, on-going observations; attendance, meal count, daily cleaning, inventory and classroom safety checklists, monthly monitoring reports of classroom progress in meeting program goals and the Head Start Performance Standards and provide assistance to Teacher in resolve problems and concerns.
- Works effectively in a team environment and actively participates in joint problem solving; willingly cooperates with co-workers listening attentively to others; asks clarifying questions to gain a better understanding of the other person’s views and underlying assumptions, following rules, regulations, and policies; positively contributes to implementing changes
- Deals with issues directly, in a respectful and timely manner. Focuses on resolving the issue while not criticizing the person
- Promote and establish a positive relationship and communicate effectively with other staff and parents using daily communication and implementing positive working relationships with children, families and co-workers, utilizing a variety of communication styles like; informal
telephone calls, face-to-face conversations, written correspondence, electronic mail and weekly newsletter, to provide timely; services, information, answers to questions, and guidance on a regular basis. Communicate on a regular basis verbally, electronically and in writing to the Head Start Manger regarding program issues including concerns and recommendations, related to but not limited to children, families, staff and program.
