Rig Hand - Oil and Gas Abandonment Projects

Job Summary : We are looking for a hardworking and safety-focused Rig Hand to support plug and abandonment (PandA) operations throughout California. The Rig Hand will assist with well servicing, pulling and running tubulars, and supporting rig-up / rig-down activities on well abandonment sites. This role is physically demanding and critical to ensuring that wells are properly secured and abandoned in compliance with California regulations (CalGEM).
Key Responsibilities
- Support rig-up and rig-down operations, including handling rigging equipment, tongs, slips, and elevators.
- Assist with pulling tubing, rods, casing, and other downhole components during well abandonment.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment under supervision, including manual and powered hand tools.
- Work on the rig floor, derrick, or ground level, as directed by the Rig Operator or Supervisor.
- Clean and prepare rig and wellsite for operations; keep work areas clear and free of hazards.
- Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate in job safety analysis (JSA), safety meetings, and pre-job briefings.
- Assist with cementing, pressure testing, well control, and plugging operations as needed.
- Load, unload, and organize materials and equipment on-site and in transport vehicles.
- Monitor and report equipment conditions and assist with routine maintenance.
- Comply with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards and California state regulations.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements
Stand, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods. Work in confined spaces and at heights (e.g., derrick). Tolerate exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and extreme weather. Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug / alcohol screening, and fit-for-duty test.
Work Environment
Field-based role at oil and gas well sites statewide. Regular overtime
Team-oriented environment with strict safety expectations.
Compensation and Benefits
