As an Engineer in our Engineering Department, you’ll be part of a team managing heavy civil capital construction projects, reviewing private development projects, executing annual service, maintenance and emergency response contracts, all while interacting with a team of dedicated professionals both internal and external to the City. From inception to construction, you will play a crucial role in turning conceptual plans into tangible and successful construction projects, driving progress, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
The Department of Public Utilities is looking for candidates for civil engineer who not only possess the technical expertise required for the roles of an Engineer but also brings a collaborative and innovative spirit. Positions from this posting may be filled as an Engineer I, II or III depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate and the needs of the department at the time of hire. The Engineer I, II and III positions are part of an approved career progression program. In addition, candidates for these positions are eligible for a $3,000.00 sign-on bonus.

#Engineer Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. For Engineer I, four years of relevant full-time experience will be assessed in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Engineer I : No experience required for applicants who possess a bachelor’s degree; non-degreed applicants must have two years of experience in addition to the degree equivalency.
Engineer II : In addition to satisfying the vocational / education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Engineer III : In addition to satisfying the vocational / education standards, this class requires a minimum of five years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the .
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications
