Position Summary
The Director of Undergraduate Admissions position is directly responsible for planning targeted strategies, oversight of recruitment events, and the supervision, coaching, mentoring and training of counselor staff to achieve enrollment goals as well as being responsible for the development and implementation of recruitment and admissions strategies to meet quality and quantity standards for new undergraduate student populations including freshman and transfer students. This position will also manage a caseload of prospective students with the goal of moving them through the admission process, consisting of : lead generation and converting on-campus prospective student inquiries to applicants, and ultimately to enrolled students; visit high schools and community colleges; attend regional college fairs representing USF ; and build relationships with high school guidance and community college counselors and appropriate academic and non-academic departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility of development and implementation of recruitment & admissions strategies particularly those directed at increasing new undergraduate student populations to ensure that goals are achieved and exceeded.
- Train, mentor, motivate and supervise undergraduate admissions staff and serve as liaison between those staff and the rest of the university.
- Monitor individual staff progress toward meeting overall enrollment goals.
- Coordinate day-to-day operations of the admissions staff by managing and implementing effective student-centered processes for interviewing, territory management, application file completion, preliminary credit evaluation, acceptance, initial financial aid counseling, and student registration.
- Evaluate recruitment data and enrollment trends to shape and develop overall future recruitment strategy and planning for new initiatives.
- Develop and administer an undergraduate admissions budget.
- Provide leadership and management of assigned communications tools and materials especially those serving diverse populations such as the Admissions website, social media (Facebook, Instagram, online chat), and admissions publications.
- Conducting and expanding student-centered on and off campus recruitment initiatives including presentations, personal interviews, transcript evaluations, financial aid counseling, registration of students, and other related admission counselor duties along with researching emerging territories.
- Foster relationships with area high school guidance counselors, community college counselors.
- Develop a niche area to be an expert in : i.e. financial aid, undocumented, veteran, first generation, etc.
- Attend / Present at campus wide recruitment events such as Open Houses, Visit Days, Scholarship Days, and Student Orientation and Registration, etc.
- Review financial aid awards for accuracy and communicate affordability of attendance to students and their families.
- Present at financial aid information nights, FAFSA completion workshops, college info nights, etc.
- Plan, organize and implement strategies to improve attendance at admission events including open house, visit days, preview days, virtual web events, special events, high school / community college counselor and faculty events.
- Present the outstanding academic resources, programs, facilities and extracurricular offerings of the campus to prospective students and their parents. This includes speaking with individuals and to audiences ranging in size from 10-250 or more people.
- Work closely with other University offices to enhance their involvement in the recruitment process, including the creation of partnerships with the college offices and individual academic departments.
- Participate in professional organizations and professional development opportunities to maintain current on trends in college admissions such as chairing committees.
- Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement
- Other responsibilities will be assigned as necessary.

Physical Requirements of Position
Individual must be able to travel and provide an automobile to accomplish work. Must be flexible with hours knowing certain times of the year require longer working days and weeks because of the volume of activity. Must hold valid driver's license and auto insurance. Besides travel, work requires ability to walk around campus with prospective students, to sit at a desk and operate a computer and phone in order to speak with prospective students.
