Special Agent (Lateral) Positions
The Washington State Gambling Commission (WSGC) is accepting applications for two Special Agent (Lateral) positions in the Statewide Enforcement Team of the Regulation and Enforcement Unit. These positions will be located on the West side of the state in counties such as Lewis, Thurston, Mason, Kitsap, Pierce, King, Snohomish, and Kittitas (Cle Elum & Ellensburg areas). Special Agents are sworn law enforcement officers who must meet the Special Requirements / Conditions of Employment. They are exempt from civil service but have many benefits similar to general service employees, including a generous insurance and leave package. They belong to the Public Safety Employees Retirement System (PSERS) and have a flexible work schedule of 160 hours within 28-day work periods.
Special Agents in the Regulatory and Enforcement Unit work as a team and in partnerships with other agencies to regulate licensed gambling and enforce gambling rules and laws and investigate illegal gambling activities. The authorized forms of gambling that Special Agents regulate are Card Rooms, Pull Tabs, Raffles, Bingo, Fund Raising Events, and Amusement games. Special Agents on the Statewide Enforcement Team investigate criminal cases for the prosecution of illegal gambling and gambling related crimes. They also provide technical assistance to gambling operations, respond to complaints submitted to the agency, and provide education and training to both the public and licensees.
Some of what you will do :
- Respond to complaints in a timely manner.
- Work administrative and criminal investigations with a connection to gambling.
- Conduct internet and criminal investigations in an undercover capacity.
- Work independently and as a team member.
- Dismantle and disrupt criminal organizations and operations.
- Participate on special projects and teams.
- Demonstrate a good working relationship with federal, state, and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies by working cases jointly, sharing information, and by providing training.
- Be willing to travel and conduct investigations throughout Washington State.

WSGC Law Enforcement Officers may be able to retire at the age of 60 (typically the retirement age for most other state positions is 65) if they meet the eligibility requirements.
Special Agent starting salary ranges from $68,856 - $96,936 annually, depending upon your education and experience. NOTE : 5% Premium Pay will be added to salary above for duty stations in King County. Additional Compensation incentives :
