Shipping Specialist

Basic Functions : Shipping Specialist (Union based position) This employee will perform specialized functions relating to : packaging, and documentation of the shipment of government and commercial material. This includes interpreting Sales Orders, preparing Government and Commercial Packing Sheets, Bills of Lading and other shipping documents to conform with shipping requirements. Secure economical and efficient transportation for material being shipped. This occupation also requires the monitoring and ordering of materials and developing packaging / marking procedures; layout, fabrication, and assembly of shipping crates and boxes and the packing, loading and securing of electronic assemblies, materials, tooling, and products for domestic and export shipments.

Union Role-Standard Pay Rate Applies Position is first shift on a 9 / 80 work schedule with every other Friday off

Required Education, Experience, & Skills Qualifications :

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Communicate effectively both orally and written.
• Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with company personnel, external customers, freight companies, and suppliers.
• Utilize computer skills to prepare appropriate reports and shipping documents.
• Make decisions using sound judgement while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including government property movement, and import / export policies (i.e. Mil Standards, ASTM packaging standards, Export packaging policies).
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., bend, stoop, and reach.
• Forklift, Material Handling
• At least 3 (three) years of traffic management experience.
• At least 3 (three) years of experience in packaging of commercial and military items in accordance with military and commercial standards.
