Power Plant Engineering Manager
Location : Bridgeport, CT | Full-Time | Power Generation Industry
Are you a seasoned engineering leader with a strong background in power plant operations? We’re hiring a Plant Engineer to oversee and drive engineering excellence in a dynamic and safety-conscious environment. In this high-impact role, you will provide technical leadership for plant performance, capital improvements, safety and environmental compliance, and maintenance reliability across a state-of-the-art facility.
Position Summary :
As the Plant Engineer, you’ll lead the plant’s engineering function—ensuring reliable and efficient operations by managing engineering processes, identifying areas for performance improvements, and overseeing plant capital projects. This role serves as a technical resource across multiple departments, supporting safety, environmental, and operational goals, while maintaining compliance with contracts, industry standards, and internal procedures.
Must-Have Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field required)
10+ years of experience in power plant engineering, operations, or maintenance
5+ years of supervisory experience leading technical and administrative staff
In-depth understanding of power plant systems (generation, steam, DCS / IT, and water chemistry)
Strong analytical skills for problem-solving, performance tracking, and root cause analysis
Excellent communication, planning, and leadership abilities
Working knowledge of capital project budgeting, vendor management, and contract evaluation
Professional Engineering (PE) license in Connecticut preferred but not required
Key Responsibilities :
Lead the plant’s Engineering Department , including functions such as performance optimization, operations support, safety / environmental compliance, and DCS / IT systems
Oversee capital and major maintenance projects , from planning through execution, including vendor and contractor coordination
Identify and track operational issues that impact safety, compliance, equipment condition, or generation reliability
Analyze plant data to enhance availability, thermal efficiency , and long-term reliability
Support the development and refinement of preventive and predictive maintenance programs
Provide technical input on equipment failures and lead or assist with root cause investigations
Maintain plant documentation, including drawings, thermal performance data, DCS configurations, and reporting tools
Manage department budgets and contribute to financial planning efforts
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
Act as a technical liaison for insurance-related matters and coordinate with corporate engineering, vendors, and external service providers
