Job Summary
CU Boulder encourages applications for a Director for Service Learning and Impact in Community Engagement (SLICE)! This role will provide strategic leadership and oversight to encourage social change in the areas of service learning, community engagement, and social justice. The director will employ a collaborative and social justice approach to bring vision, creativity, and gravitas to the role. Championing the department mantra of Learn, Serve, Reflect, the director will interpret divisional and campus strategic planning initiatives and goals to lead tactical planning for the unit in coordination with the SLICE Advisory Board. While maintaining the student experience as a priority, they will implement procedural and practical changes based on grounded scholarship and proven application in the fields of service learning, civic engagement, and student involvement in higher education. The director will cultivate strong working relationships with members of the broader community and the non-profit sector. The goal will be three-fold and mutually beneficial : (1) build a portfolio that represents the broadest variety of student service interests that (2) meet current community need and (3) offer community members and students, an opportunity to better understand the structural and sociopolitical conditions that give rise to inequity while providing an opportunity for meaningful, cooperative engagement. The director will supervise the Assistant Director for Service Learning, Leadership, and Social Action and the Assistant Director for Community Engagement. Service Learning and Impact in Community Engagement (SLICE) is comprised of a staff of four student life professionals and over a dozen student coordinators. Reporting to the Acting Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life, the director manages assessment and evaluation of staff and programming. Service Learning & Impact in Community Engagement (SLICE) fosters a culture of service by connecting CU Boulder to engagement opportunities that positively impact our communities. Through an educational framework of equity and inclusion, we develop socially responsible student leaders who understand, advocate for and provide services to meet campus and community needs.The purpose of the SLICE Board is to work with the SLICE staff to ensure that it is acting in accordance with its mission. Through policy-making, leadership and outreach the Board guides the development and future of SLICE.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Strategy, Supervision, and Oversight
- Provides leadership, supervision, and oversight to the SLICE staff, including strategic planning and furthering the SLICE mission, vision, and goals.
- Advises and works closely with the Service Learning and Impact in Community Engagement (SLICE) Advisory Board.
- Supervises the Assistant Director for Service Learning, Leadership, and Social Action and the Assistant Director for Community Engagement.
- Oversees hiring, training, and supervision of the SLICE staff.
- Collaborate with staff to set outcomes and goals, manage performance, and support professional and personal development.
- Supports students, interns, and volunteers in their professional and personal development through mentorship and active engagement in the SLICE programming.
- Provides fiscal oversight for a department budget totaling over 800k.
- Coordinates budget reports, proposals, and summaries for the SLICE Advisory Board, CU Student Government, Finance Board, Legislative Council, and Student Life leadership.
- Advises the assistant directors in student staff hiring and supervision practices for responsible for signature department offerings, including Sko Serve (alternative breaks), CU in the Community, Boulder Municipal Courts validation, volunteer placement, marketing, and one-day event teams.
- Supports SLICE professional and student staff in maintaining efficient and effective expenditure and tracking practices.
- Develops innovative volunteer programming by building collaborative relationships with campus and community organizations.
- Applies conceptual and theoretical models to assess and adapt programming and services to best meet the needs of current students.
- Oversees the acquisition and implementation of volunteer management software.
- Continuously engage in strategic visioning and planning, assessing the effectiveness.
- Delegates responsibilities and partners with Student Life Technology Solutions to ensure smooth integration.

What You Should Know
This is a full-time leadership position with standard business hours of 8-5 pm with some nights and weekends expected. Summer hours will align with university requirements.
