Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Encompass Digital Media is a global technology services company focused on supporting broadcast, cable and digital leaders. We design, implement and operate reliable video solutions that capture, process and deliver our clients’ video content from any source, in any format, to any destination in the most efficient manner possible.
Position Summary
As the Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry continues to evolve, Encompass is seeking an exceptional operational leader to own the transformation and operation of our global managed services organization, building on our existing expertise to reshape the business to be ready to embrace the future requirements of the industry.
Responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Encompass’ global service delivery, ensuring industry leading excellence in complex broadcast operations, live events, digital media services, and client satisfaction. This role requires a visionary, results oriented leader with extensive experience in transforming global media operations in technology-driven environments.
In the first instance, the candidate will be tasked with implementing a unified global operations team. This will require the ability to analyze the global group structure and propose improvements across regions to rationalize roles and staffing levels, along with requisite process efficiencies. The ultimate goal is to establish a team that embraces changes across the industry and is ready to execute for our clients at the highest standard.
The position can be based out of the Encompass facilities located in Atlanta, GA or Stamford, CT, but, for the first 18 months, there is a requirement to work at our Atlanta facility for a minimum of 3 days per week. Some international travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities :
- A member of the Encompass Executive Committee (EC), collaborating with the CEO and wider EC to develop and execute strategic plans.
- Lead and optimize day-to-day Operations across all global facilities, ensuring standardization of operational approach across the business, where possible.
- Work closely with the CTO and their global engineering teams to ensure architecture and technology strategies are aligned with current and future operational requirements.
- Work closely with the CFO and their team to deliver on financial objectives.
- Drive operational excellence and a culture of continuous improvement in media delivery, playout, OTT, and content management services.
- Ensuring our client-centric philosophy is understood and enacted at every level across the global teams.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, security protocols, sustainability targets, client Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Responsible for instilling and demonstrating a culture of excellence, timeliness and financial control within the Operational team, according to Encompass practices.
- Responsible for fostering relationships and managing client contracts and services.
- Managing and optimizing the company's daily operations across various departments like Product Delivery, Finance, Human Resources, and Customer Service. Identifying areas for improvement in operational efficiency and implementing strategies to enhance productivity.
- Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and taking corrective actions to ensure the company meets its goals.
- Building and motivating a high-performing team, fostering a positive work culture, and ensuring employee engagement.
- Identifying and mitigating operational risks to ensure business continuity and minimize potential disruptions.
- Providing accurate and timely reports to the CEO on the operational status of the company.
- Making informed decisions related to daily operations, team management, and addressing any operational issues that may arise.
- Oversee global P&L, budgeting, and resource allocation for the operational team.
- Work with Product and Engineering teams to design and implement scalable systems and processes to support growth and innovation.
- Work with Global Solutions, Technology & Project teams to define processes which ensure a smooth handover of solutions and projects into day-to-day operations.
- Assist global Sales, Product Management and Marketing in developing internal literature and customer materials.
- Have familiarity with and be a champion for Encompass products and services. Support Sales, Solutions and Marketing teams at industry events and forums.
- Lead in operational analysis and studies to identify necessary resources for new business enhancements including supporting the Solutions team with, Bill-of-materials (BOM) and operational input to bid documentation.
Required Experience, Knowledge & Personal Skills :
Extensive experience as a COO, or an equivalent senior operational leadership role, within the Media, Broadcast, or Technology sectors.Ability and desire to be part of a 24 / 7, “always on”, business delivering high profile events for some of the world’s biggest brands.A passion for the M&E business and for building and leading high functioning operational teams.Strong understanding of digital media workflows, broadcast infrastructure, and cloud-based delivery platforms.Demonstrated success managing global teams and complex operations.Proven track record and experience in change management and restructuring teams to align with company objectives.Financial acumen with experience managing significant budgets and contributing to company profitability.Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Extensive experience in the US broadcast market is an advantage.Experience of working within a Private Equity ownership model is preferred.Ability to multitask in a fast paced, commercially driven environment.Ability to deal with change and manage ambiguity.Logical and methodical approach to problem solving.Workload prioritizing based on business needs.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Honest, transparent and accountable.An extensive network within the M&E industry is an advantage.Educational Level / Qualifications
