Job Description

Provide systems engineering support for SLS engines hardware development, operations and reporting for all vehicle configurations. This position directly supports the SLS Interfaces Sublead on behalf of the Systems Design & Definition Branch (EV72). This support will include participation in engineering reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), technical performance meetings, working groups and trade studies.

Engineering support to be performed includes :

  • Provide systems functional design and integration support for SLS engines interfaces including Core Stage to RS-25 engines and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) to RL-10 engines
  • Perform technical integration across NASA centers, diverse engineering and program / project organizations, and a variety of engineering disciplines such as propulsion, structures, avionics and power, guidance and navigation, flight software, and human engineering
  • Assist in the development strategic plans and negotiate resolution of open requirement and design issues and concerns to ensure closure of TBDs, TBRs, etc. within the corresponding organizational schedule allowance
  • Supply inputs to key systems engineering products for milestones and provide technical insight for these reviews and events
  • Assist in technical evaluations of engines verification closure data and rationale

Qualifications :

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering, or in a related technical discipline synergistic with data analysis
  • Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 5 total years of relevant experience in systems engineering and interface definition / verification
  • Required Skills :

  • At least 3 total years of relevant experience working in propulsion hardware development
  • Knowledge of systems engineering life cycle end-to-end development ranging from requirements development, functional design, hardware integration, and requirements verification.
  • The ideal candidate will have some experience developing and delivering executive level briefings, will have negotiation skills demonstrated through technical problem solving, and will have demonstrated ability to breakdown problems or issues into manageable pieces
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills are required
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook) are required
  • Basic skills using DOORS Next Generation requirements management tool are highly desired
  • An understanding of the current SLS vehicle, RS-25 engines or RL-10 engines is highly desired
  • Personnel are required to be self-motivated, effective team players familiar with working in a dynamic work environment
  • Selected candidate must be a US citizen. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required. JBS participates in E-Verify.
