We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week. Please note that we are not currently hiring fully remote positions. All candidates must have the ability to work in one of our tech offices. Our tech office for this role is in Lansing, Michigan.

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated professional to join our IT Division as a Front End Developer. The position requires the following :

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Lit, React, Angular, Vue, Svelte, etc)
  • Ability to convert mockup images into HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with testing and resolving cross browser compatibility issues
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, management information systems, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • The aptitude and desire for software development while demonstrating initiative
  • Ability to learn and effectively use tools and software development techniques as practiced, acquired, or adopted within the Division.

Generally, you will :

  • Develop, maintain, and support software libraries and applications for new and existing systems
  • Actively participate in code / design reviews as well as brainstorming sessions
  • Develop program and system documentation
  • Analyze and fix software errors in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Consult with users, architects, project leaders, and management to resolve problems and suggest alternatives.

    • Preferred Skills and Experience :

  • Experience building and maintaining UI component libraries
  • Experience consuming REST services
  • Experience with JavaScript on the server (NodeJS, Dino, etc.)
  • Experience with Sass (or other CSS preprocessors)
  • Well-versed in Agile development practices
  • Knowledge of web topics like information architecture, usability, accessibility, web analytics, search optimization, and web vitals
  • Strong writing and communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
