Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Float Pool position in a Level II Trauma Center with Cerner EMR and float requirements.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital setting with assignment to various Med / Surg units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Clinical Decision, Orthopedics, and Ortho / UrologyPatient populations include general surgery, vascular, neuro, orthopedic, oncology, and urology cases as well as general Med / Surg and decision care patientsPatient ratios typically range from 1 : 5 to 1 : 6 depending on unit and patient typeWill be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation, with floating required to like units as neededUses Cerner EMR (preferred), Omnicell medication dispensing, Spacelabs monitors, and Plum 360 IV pumpsTelemetry monitored by techs; RNs required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours12-hour shifts available for both days and nights, with a 4-week schedule cycle and weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per monthNo on-call requirementsResponsibilities include comprehensive patient care for a wide range of medical and surgical cases, with an emphasis on assessment, documentation, and escalation of careWork with a collaborative team including CNA support, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV team, and hospitalist coverageOrientation consists of 24 hours classroom and 24 hours on the unit for new or returning travelers out more than 1 year; rehire orientation based on time awayHoliday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policyScrub color of choice permittedParking available in designated parking deck zonesFirst-time travelers are eligible to apply if all experience and skill requirements are metTime off requests can be accommodated for up to 7 days, excluding designated blackout datesRequirements
Active AL or compact RN license requiredBLS and NIHSS certifications requiredMinimum 18 months of recent Med / Surg RN experienceAt least 1 year of trauma / surgical experience required for some unitsExperience with Cerner or Epic EMR requiredMust be able to demonstrate proficiency in wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, medication administration, trach care, central line care, and use of monitoring equipmentPrevious permanent staff must have a 6 month break before returning as a travelerMust live at least 60 miles from facility (no locals allowed)Benefits
