Position Summary
CuriOdyssey is seeking a President & CEO to lead a skilled, dedicated organization recognized in the community as a leader in early science education. The CEO will bring proven experience building strategic plans, leading operational and financial performance, and fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability. Champion of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, the CEO will inspire colleagues and volunteers to advance CuriOdyssey's offerings and empower visitors of all ages, means, and abilities.
Scope and Responsibilities
Leadership of the Organization
Lead, manage, organize, and motivate staff.
Build and direct a results-oriented team that delivers specific measurable results.
Lead the strategic planning and implementation of the organization's strategic plan.
Attract, develop, and retain excellent staff.
Advocate for staff and recognize employee performance.
Ensure the organization's vision, values, and goals are embodied throughout.
Board Relations
Provide periodic and proactive reporting to the Board on financial and operational status, including key metrics.
Develop, support, and educate the Board, including committee support and good governance practices.
Partner with the Board to evolve alongside organizational growth.
Communicate often and clearly with the Board, senior management, staff, and volunteers.
Attend all Board meetings as a non-voting member.
Finance, Operations, Administration
Develop and manage an annual budget and operating plan and maintain appropriate cash reserves.
Monitor financial performance and provide regular feedback.
Oversee and implement policies, programs, and practices.
Execute the strategic plan, track outcomes, and adjust strategy based on data analysis.
Programs, Exhibits, Education
Evaluate and update exhibits, galleries, and program offerings to align with mission and values.
Provide leadership over a broad and diverse set of programs and services.
Ensure programs are informative, entertaining, and aligned with STEAM topics.
Assess trends and competitive offerings to develop aligned program plans.
Development, Marketing, Communications
Expand and enhance a diversified fundraising program (major giving, planned giving, foundation, corporate, government, in-kind, events).
Establish community and business partnerships to advance vision.
Manage and cultivate donor relationships.
Act as spokesperson and represent the organization publicly.
Develop and execute the marketing and communications plan.
Serve as a thought leader in science, conservation, education, and philanthropy.
Qualifications
10+ years in an executive leadership role for a museum, zoo, or school (preferred).
Experience in a membership, guest or attraction-driven organization; zoo or animal-related experience a plus.
Proven ability to build, motivate, and develop staff within a cross-functional team.
Strong organizational leadership and decision-making skills.
Experience in nonprofit financial management.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated, collaborative, and energetic.
Experience working with diverse constituencies; familiarity with science-based organizations a plus.
Previous board experience a plus.
