Dr Wharam's Team (Division of General Internal Medicine)

We are a health policy analytics research team at Duke University. We evaluate natural experiments in health policy, benefit design / outofpocket costs, and health insurance using large administrative claims. Our projects span methods such as differenceindifferences, panel data models / controlled interrupted time series / segmented regression, and survival analysis. We use robust data engineering processes to create analyzable cohorts from raw claims.

The Programmer / Analyst will serve as a SASforward Programmer / Analyst (Stata helpful) who can turn raw claims into analytic datasets and contribute to study design, analysis, and manuscripts in collaboration with faculty investigators, a Research Scientist, project managers, and external partners.

Important duties include :

• Build and maintain SAS workflows that import, clean, and organize claims data; run quality checks; and keep clear documentation (Base / Macro / SQL; PROC FREQ / MEANS / SUMMARY; formats). Construct analytic cohorts from Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial claims; map ICD10CM, CPT / HCPCS, DRG, NDC, revenue codes; derive episodes and utilization / cost measures.
• Implement study designs and analytic approaches (e.g., DiD, interrupted time series, matching / weighting, panel / fixed effects); run analyses in SAS and, where useful, Stata.
• Serves as contributing author for protocols, reports, and manuscripts.
