Each teacher at The Chapel School, under the direct supervision of the Principal, is responsible for teaching academics and religion to their students unless departmentalization dictates otherwise, including instruction, motivation, evaluation and all other aspects of teaching. TCS Teachers are expected to maintain effective working relationships with VLC Pastors, TCS Administrators, other teachers, maintenance staff, support staff and all other members of the VLC / TCS Community. TCS Teachers are expected to maintain a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment for students at school and provide positive and professional support to TCS families as needed, always maintaining alignment with our mission ... "To Know, Live and Share the Love of Christ".

Qualifications

  • All TCS Teachers are to be certified (preferably by the State of New York) or working toward certification. Certification must meet the requirements put forth by NYS Department of Education (DOE), and a copy of each certificate or license should be kept on file in the school office.

All TCS Teachers are expected to acquire a NYS Teacher's Certificate within 24 months of employment. Certificates must be maintained and renewed according to the standards set by the NYS DOE. An annual written request for exception must be presented to and approved by the administration.

Responsibilities

It is understood that all TCS Teachers will :

  • Participate in scheduled team and full faculty meetings;
  • Attend all scheduled school functions;
  • Be on campus by 7 : 45 AM each school day, unless otherwise determined by the administration;
  • Prepare daily and weekly instructional plans that align with NYS standards for 5th-8th Grade Science and 6th Grade Religion.
  • Plan age-appropriate, Christ-centered, faith-integrated lessons that align with academic standards and the mission of TCS;
  • Plan and coordinate field trips;
  • Establish a trusting relationship with students and families;
  • Integrate technology and other modern techniques to maximize student engagement;
  • Maintain an inspiring and organized classroom / lab;
  • Maintain a creative and attractive learning environment;
  • Recognize and reinforce the importance of good conduct and achievement by students;
  • Use effective and varied assessments to monitor student achievement;
  • Counsel students or direct them to the Guidance Counselor as needed;
  • Administer standardized testing and utilize results to enhance student development;
  • Establish classroom rules for classroom management and discipline;
  • Be fair and consistent in following through on classroom / school rules;
  • Use a balance of Law and Gospel in discipline, focusing on a cycle of forgiveness;
  • Respond to the individual physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children;
  • Communicate expectations effectively with the children and respond appropriately and consistently when expectations are met (or not met);
  • Be flexible when unusual situations / needs arise;
  • Maintain student records (grade books, report cards, attendance, etc.) appropriately;
  • Practice Shelter Plan and Evacuation Drills with students and maintain student safety in all circumstances;
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with families with regard to academic and / or behavioral concerns.
  • Supervise the classroom, lunch room, hallway, playground and outside venues on field trips to maintain (as assigned) student safety;
  • Assist with special events (Chapel Services, concerts, PTO events, etc.) as needed;
  • Dress professionally but comfortably unless special circumstance arises (field trips, etc.);
  • Dismiss their classes on time and supervise dismissal according to school policy / procedures;
  • Review and understand all information in the Faculty / Staff and Family Handbooks; and,
  • Monitor and approve the time cards of any teacher aides that might assist them directly.
  • Hours ( Hours / Week)

    It is understood that TCS's PT Librarian will :

  • Be on site per the School Calendar (M-F) from September through June.
  • Be on site from 7 : 45 AM-3 : 00 PM each school day, offering extra help before or after school at least 1X / week.
  • Salary Range - $40K-$70K depending on education and experience.

    Preferably Have a Science Teaching Degree or General Ed Degree with Experience in Teaching Science.
