Job Profile Summary
Under limited supervision, this position works with Science & Wellness department management in the development, administration, and coordination of all functions and services of the Fitness and Wellness Program and facilities. Works independently towards carrying out objectives and evaluates procedures and practices at all Centers in achieving department goals.
Minimum Education / Experience
- Masters Degree (M.S) in Health Education, Exercise Physiology or related field and four (4) years of effective work experience in health promotion, gym, fitness and / or wellness center; or
- Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Exercise Physiology or related field and six (6) years of effective work experience in health promotion, gym, fitness and / or wellness center.
Minimum Certification / Licenses :
Maintains appropriate certifications : American Heart Association Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other certifications / licenses pertaining to the safety and well-being of patrons using campus facilities as required in accordance with OSHA, Federal, State and local regulations.Essential Functions :
Daily - 25% : Coordinates, develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates health education programs, workshops, academic classes, and wellness groups and health theme events; presents student exercise orientations, fitness assessments and exercise introduction / prescriptions college wide.Other - 10% : Assists in monitoring and maintaining the budget of the Centers.Other - 10% : Assists with student special programs, facility fees, fiscal needs, preparing budget recommendations, and sets fee rates when applicable.Other - 10% : Prepares reports on activities and emergencies; maintains and submits detailed monthly and annual reports of all student programs; promotes student programs and develops marketing approaches to support the Centers.Other - 10% : Establishes classes and special programs.Other - 10% : Provides oversight, guidance, and training for interns and student assistants.Other - 5% : Maintains confidentiality of all materials related to counseling with students, faculty, and staff.Other - 10% : Initiates independent and collaborative research / training projects, writes proposals and reports, and keeps abreast of current research in the fitness field.Other - 5% : Develops and maintains student wellness Center webpage and publication of newsletter as assigned.Other - 5% : Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.Knowledge of electronic health records, charting and law regarding HIPAA and management of medical records compliance.Knowledge of office procedures, Microsoft Office applications, health science, and budget Management.Possess a personal commitment to a healthy lifestyle.Ability to demonstrate proven leadership, personal and professional integrity, strong interpersonal communications, effective time-management, and decision-making skills.Ability to be sensitive to the fitness and wellness needs of a diverse student population.Knowledge and certification in CPR, and First Aid (as applicable) methods.Ability to perform fitness assessments and possess knowledge on disease prevention.Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments.Ability to professionally interact in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff, medical professionals, health educators, media, and other institutions / programs within the community.In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in area of specialization and general knowledge of related areas in the CollegeAbility to perform complex administrative analysis with only general supervisionStrong diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent coordination and communication skills used appropriately influence the decision-making of individuals and groups at all levels in the CollegeAbility to plan and manage own work flow, priorities and results accomplishmentRequires the ability to present and disseminate data to various levelsOur Culture
