Electrical Engineering Technician

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world's transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people's quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician with expertise relevant to electrical wiring, panel assembly, troubleshooting, and operation of test equipment. In this role, you will contribute to the operation of the company's engineering testing capabilities working with molten salts including Flibe. The candidate must have knowledge of electrical systems, electrical codes and best practices, troubleshooting, operation of test equipment, and a proven record of collaboration with teams. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work and enjoys hands-on work in a laboratory setting.

Electrical Assembly & Hardware Systems

  • Build and assemble electrical panels and other electrical hardware systems, ensuring compliance with relevant electrical codes (e.g., NFPA, NEC).
  • Design cable routing systems and implement laboratory hardware management solutions, with a focus on labeling, organization, and future maintainability.
  • Order and procure equipment based on bills of materials; design panel layouts, assemble electrical components, and install wiring while verifying that deliveries match specifications.

Laboratory Operations, Testing & Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain materials testing equipment, including mechanical assembly, sample preparation, data compilation, and coordination of calibration checks.
  • Monitor ongoing tests in the laboratory; record anomalies, results, and operational notes in a standardized documentation system.
  • Coordinate or perform equipment calibration and preventive maintenance, scheduling specialized services as necessary.
  • Collaboration & Project Coordination

  • Work closely with engineers, fabricators, and technicians to move equipment through design, build, and test cycles, communicating progress and elevating issues promptly.
  • Provide input on and contribute to software interfaces for experimental control and data acquisition, helping troubleshoot any hardware / software integration issues.
  • Assist in creating or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical documents for new or modified equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance

  • Practice safe chemical hygiene and handle hazardous materials in accordance with company policies, governmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA), and industry best practices.
  • Participate in safety audits, trainings, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as Tyvek, Respirators, etc., and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Adhere to all regulations associated with handling toxic or corrosive substances (such as molten salts), maintaining strict environmental and safety standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain thorough records of equipment assemblies, test methods, configurations, and modifications, ensuring that information is clear, accessible, and up to date.
  • Compile test data and generate concise reports or summaries for engineering teams, highlighting key observations or anomalies.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

    Relevant electrical certifications or qualifications (e.g., NFPA, state electrician license, OSHA 10 / 30) are highly desirable.

    Experience with integrated mechanical, fluid, and chemical systems (pumps, piping, or chemical processes), with a strong emphasis on safety and hazard control is desirable.

    Familiarity with data acquisition, instrumentation, and controls; proficiency with software tools such as LabVIEW or similar is desirable.

    Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods

    Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another

    Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions

    Communicating with others to exchange information

    The salary range for this position is $92,500 to $108,800 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
