Nature of Work
The Grand Rapids Public Library (GRPL) seeks a dynamic Library Information Systems Manager to lead its technology operations. This role oversees all Library systems, software, and technology infrastructure—ensuring alignment with the needs of patrons and staff. Responsibilities include managing acquisitions, functionality, training, and strategic planning to support the library’s purpose to reflect and connect our community to trusted resources and each other.
The Library Information Systems Manager supervises the Information Systems Department, reports to the Deputy Director, and participates on the Executive and Management Teams, contributing to organizational strategy and service delivery.
Examples of work :
- Department Management : Leads and evaluates IS Department staff; responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and scheduling; recommends updates to job roles to reflect evolving technology needs.
- Strategic Planning & Budgeting : Develops and executes a library-wide technology strategy to meet current and future needs; stays informed on industry trends to inform equipment procurement and budgeting decisions.
- Technology Implementation & Support : Leads cross-departmental implementation, maintenance, and user experience enhancements of all library systems; serves as technical lead and escalation point for troubleshooting system issues, ensures secure, documented, and efficient IT operations; manages IT projects, RFPs, vendor relationships, purchases, contracts, and budgets; collaborates with staff to deliver technology training and support that improves service delivery.
- Project Management : Organizes resources and timelines to deliver project outcomes. Effectively sets agendas and leads meetings with all stakeholders.
- Communication : Translates technical concepts for non-technical audiences; documents processes clearly. Communicates changes, outages, upgrades, etc in a timely and accessible manner
- Customer Service : Sets and upholds technology support standards for staff and patrons.
- Decision-Making : Balances cost, benefit, and strategic priorities in technology decisions.

Minimum Training and Experience
Required :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related fieldMinimum 2 years of IS / IT supervisory experience, preferably in the public sector—or equivalent combination of training and experienceCNE (Certified Network Engineer) or CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Administrator)Preferred :
