Position Title :  Project Accountant

Location :  Perris, CA

Agency Type :  Government

Contract Duration :  Through April 2026 (Potential for Direct Hire)

Overview :

A government agency in Perris is seeking a skilled Project Accountant with a strong background in project, construction, and capital asset accounting. This is a long-term contract opportunity with potential for direct hire. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex accounting tasks related to infrastructure and capital projects.

Key Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of professional accounting experience, with emphasis on :
  • Cost accounting
  • Construction accounting
  • Capital asset and project accounting
  • Proficiency in GAAP and related accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting systems.

Core Responsibilities :

  • Process and reconcile construction, capital asset, and project accounting transactions.
  • Maintain ledgers, reports, and records for cost accounting and capital projects.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
  • Monitor work-in-progress transfers and multi-funded project accounts.
  • Review documentation and reconcile costs for project closures.
  • Process pay estimates and retention check requests for District projects.
  • Prepare depreciation schedules and reconcile fixed asset balances.
  • Analyze revenue and expenditure accounts.
  • Generate detailed financial reports with supporting documentation.
  • Perform general accounting and payroll duties as needed.
  • Skills & Competencies :

  • Accuracy in financial calculations and reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently.
  • Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with emphasis on cost, construction, and capital asset accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in government (GASB) project accounting, including cost accounting and project accounting.
  • Strong ability to analyze, reconcile, and verify financial data with a focus on accuracy and documentation.
  • Expertise in preparing detailed financial reports and conducting mathematical calculations.
  • Skilled in using accounting software, fixed asset systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information effectively.
