A Massachusetts-based government agency is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Boston, MA . This role is ideal for a hands-on cybersecurity professional looking to secure complex infrastructure and protect sensitive digital assets across multiple office locations.
In this position, you’ll provide critical support for cybersecurity operations—ranging from real-time threat detection and response to long-term system hardening and risk reduction. The role also involves collaborating with IT leadership to align security solutions with enterprise-wide goals. Some after-hours availability will be needed to support emergency response and scheduled system maintenance.
Required Skills & Experience
3+ years of IT experience, with a minimum of 2 years dedicated to cybersecurity functions.
Bachelor's degree in IT, engineering, or a related technical field—or equivalent certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CISM.
Hands-on experience with :
Threat detection tools and SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk)
Firewalls, IDS / IPS, endpoint protection
Conducting and analyzing vulnerability scans
Implementing security policies and access controls
Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks like NIST 800-61 and CIS Controls.
Strong communication and documentation capabilities.
Desired Skills & Experience
Background supporting cybersecurity in regulated or government environments.
Proficiency with networking hardware : switches, firewalls, routers, wireless access points, etc.
Understanding of secure provisioning and deprovisioning workflows.
Experience conducting audits and recommending risk mitigation strategies.
