Position Title : Special Education Teacher

School / Department : Clintonville Elementary School

Reports to : Building Principal and Director of Student Services

Union Affiliation : Teacher Contract

Summary

Will provide specialized instruction to students who are identified with a disability of Autism and

multiple disabilities in the special education classroom and general education classroom.

Education / Qualifications

Valid 065 Connecticut Certification

A minimum of field work experience at the college level

Responsibilities / Expectations

• Implement model monitor and adjust a variety of instructional and social / emotional strategies across all settings restrictive settings regular classroom settings and non-instructional settings in cooperation with general education classroom staff
• Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans analyzing behavioral data
• Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration team members and parents.
• Develop a daily / weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each paraeducator that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students independence.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance
• Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability including the use of state guidelines.
• Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.
• Handle with Care Training - or willingness to complete Handle with Care Training
