Salary : Level I : $1906.07 - $2277.93 ; Level II : $2043.92 - $2442.67; paid bi-weekly

Examinations :
Written Exam (100%) : May include knowledge of the interviewing techniques; basic socioeconomic principles; program terminology; applicable programs; customer service principles; community resources; basic mathematical principles; alphabetical and chronological filing methods; applicable policies and procedures public relations and public speaking methods; telephone etiquette and other relevant subjects.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards :
Level I and II : Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of college coursework including courses in the behavioral sciences.
Level II ( In addition to above) : One year of full-time paid work experience equivalent to a Probation Technician.
Qualifying related work experience may include : verifying documents to determine eligibility of benefits social services or employment; conducting needs assessments; making referrals for services; interviewing clients.

A valid California Class C drivers license is required at time of appointment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Character : Applicants must have a reputation of honesty and trustworthiness. A felony conviction will be disqualifying and convictions for misdemeanors and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Appointees will be fingerprinted and will be required to pass an extensive background investigation.

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at county expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointments will be made for the Kern County Probation Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed.
