Telecommunications Operations Engineer

Salary : $75,200 - 120,000 per year

Responsibilities :

In the position of Telephone Operations Engineer II, I will be managing the operations, maintenance, and provisioning of vital switches and systems that support traditional and Voice over IP technologies.

I will conduct daily detailed DNHC processes for my assigned areas.

I will oversee all telephony equipment with minimal supervision.

I will adhere to established protocols for daily health check procedures of the telephone network and follow call-out protocols during outages.

I will prepare comprehensive RCA documentation post-outage for critical failures.

I will configure and troubleshoot SS7, ISUP, and SIP with limited guidance and assist other engineers in implementation.

I will handle the installation and activation of Trunk Groups as determined by the Traffic and Capacity Team.

I will demonstrate understanding of telephony circuit architecture concepts including OC12, OC3, DS3, DS1, etc.

I will create method of procedure (mops) documents and plan changes in advance with limited assistance.

I will play a key role in troubleshooting efforts during significant outages and provide guidance to junior engineers.

I will be instrumental in addressing Residential and Business telephony issues.

I will document both switch and telephone network architecture.

I will support all core telephony equipment, including hardware and software upgrades, maintenance, and expansions.

I will guide junior engineers in execution and evaluate plans for changes and expansions in core telephony equipment.

I must be available for my scheduled shift, which is Sunday to Thursday from 9 pm to 6 am, in an office environment.

I may also work in various environments such as Network Labs, 24 / 7 Network Operations, and Field Operations, with occasional travel as necessary.

I seek candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience, and relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA / CCIE).

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Wireline, Wireless, or Broadband telephony switch installation or administration, as well as database management and network configuration, is required.

Candidates must demonstrate abilities such as reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English; troubleshooting during outages; and possessing comprehensive telephony knowledge (e.g., SBC, VoIP Switch, SIP protocol).

I look for candidates who can work effectively with vendor providers, maintain professionalism under stress, and utilize personal computer applications efficiently. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are also prerequisites.

Preferred qualifications include familiarity with company products and services, and a deeper understanding of word processing, spreadsheet applications, TCP / IP standards, and communications protocols.
