General Description of Duties
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The purpose of this position is to interview and assign clients to community service and / or work programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Interviews and assigns offenders to a community service agency. Interviews offenders as to employment, skills, transportation, time available, and offense. Assigns offenders to a community service agency based on community need and other qualifications. Explains procedures. Updates required reports.
Interviews and assigns offenders to the work program. Provides written instructions of work program rules, location, and answers questions raised. Schedules days offenders request to work. Completes paperwork. Updates records. Tracks the number of offenders scheduled to work per day, limiting the number according to established procedures.
Verifies and records community service or work program hours completed by offenders. Checks with community service agency to verify that report is accurate. Stamps reports. Logs hours completed in community service computer screen under date of assignment for appropriate agency. Updates Excel records.
Verifies and records work program days completed by offenders. Updates attendance records and logs. Maintains appropriate records. Fax appropriate records to probation supervisor.
Maintains notebooks of various programs. Reviews community service notebook monthly to update agency information and any special needs. Researches computer and print information to document assignment of offenders to community service agency / work program site if not provided by offender.
Maintains good working relationships with community service agencies and other criminal justice system agencies. Visits community service agencies; testifies in court proceedings; reports any unusual incidents to supervisor; and refers offenders to appropriate agencies.
OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIES
Provides monthly statistical reports by the fifth of every month. Manages insurance claims filed by clients who have been injured at a community service agency and / or work program site. Accepts and completes other related duties as assigned by superior and / or the director.
DIFFICULTY
Duties require independent judgement especially in placing offenders with a community service agency. Work requires constant shifts in attention to meet deadlines, address priorities, and to coordinate difficult situations. Problem solving is involved when tackling varying situations, diverse groups of people, and community work program needs.
RESPONSIBILITY : Supervision Received
Job duties are defined and standardized, requiring significant independent judgement in determining work methods for the accomplishment of desired results. Employee must be autonomous. Guidance is sought from supervisor concerning any new court procedures not covered by established policies. Also, guidance is sought when there are conflicts between offenders and established policies.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT
Employee has regular and frequent contact with internal staff and external customers. The purpose of the contact typically involve answering inquires regarding work processes and providing information.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED
Personal computer, fax, adding machine, data base software, and vehicle.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed mainly indoors at a desk. No usual physical demands are required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Knowledge of computer mainframe systems personal computer software equipment. Skill to supervise and direct the work of others. Ability to research, interpret and explain various data, reports and policies. Ability to assimilate various information, draw conclusions and recommend a course of action. Ability to organize, prioritize, understand and meet deadlines. Ability to adjust to rapidly changing situations. Ability to drive. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Business or Public Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements :
A valid State of Florida Driver's license with a favorable driving record at the time of employment

FLSA STATUS : Non-exempt. This job is responsible for first level customer service contact work that involves meeting with clients, making work assignments, updating and maintaining records.
