Position Overview :

The Inventory Control Analyst plays a strategic, hands-on role in slotting optimization and warehouse layout planning to improve operational efficiency. Reporting to the Inventory Control Manager, this role manages the intake of new product categories and determines optimal storage to maximize picking, put-away, and replenishment performance. The analyst assesses product dimensions, velocity, and handling needs to ensure efficient inventory flow through the Distribution Center.

They develop reporting tools and dashboards to track slotting efficiency, inventory movement, storage utilization, and picking productivity by driving data-informed decisions. The role also includes evaluating high-velocity items, applying proven slotting strategies, and recommending enhancements in product placement, RFID, and warehouse technology. Additionally, the analyst supports inventory accuracy through cycle counts, metrics development, and process improvements, working cross-functionally to align system data with physical inventory across all fulfillment channels.

Responsibilities :

Oversee intake planning and storage layout for new product categories to ensure optimal warehouse flow and operational performance.

Lead slotting optimization using product velocity, dimensions, and handling requirements to improve picking, put-away, and replenishment efficiency.

Apply industry-recognized slotting methods such as ABC classification, velocity-based, and family grouping strategies to enhance space utilization and layout planning.

Plan and execute seasonal or promotional re-slotting strategies, ensuring WMS updates, correct labeling, and safety compliance, especially for heavy or hazardous items.

Monitor warehouse space utilization, identify capacity constraints, and recommend layout or equipment changes to prevent operational bottlenecks.

Maintain accurate records of product weights and dimensions to inform slotting and shipping strategies.

Conduct regular audits of product locations, cycle counts, and variance analyses to align physical and system inventory across ERP, WMS, POS, and e-commerce platforms.

Investigate inventory discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and operational efficiency.

Partner with planning and merchandising teams to identify slow-moving or obsolete inventory for re-slotting, consolidation, or liquidation.

Work closely with receiving, shipping, and replenishment teams to align slotting strategies with dock schedules, staging areas, and replenishment logic.

Design efficient pick paths and support wave or batch picking strategies to reduce travel time and improve labor productivity.

Collaborate with finance, supply chain, retail operations, and replenishment analysts to drive warehouse efficiency and align slotting with broader business goals.

Serve as the point of contact for WMS configuration and optimization to support accurate and scalable inventory processes.

Develop and maintain dashboards and key performance indicators to track slotting performance, picking productivity, space utilization, and inventory movement.

Provide data-driven insights on warehouse performance and recommend improvements in layout, labor efficiency, and technology.

Be able to work on feet for extended periods, lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds, and safely navigating elevated platforms or ladders as needed.

Utilize heavy machinery such as forklifts and pallet jacks to manage inventory movement and storage, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.

Our Ideal Candidate will have :

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

3+ years’ experience with slotting analysis, inventory optimization, and warehouse layout strategies

Additional experience in inventory control, slotting, data analysis, and high-growth warehouse operations

Familiarity with evaluating and implementing warehouse technologies, including RFID systems

Prior experience with WMS and ERP systems preferred

Preferred certifications : APICS, Six Sigma, or Heavy Equipment Operation

A proven ability to execute with consistent delivery

Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data visualization)

Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships across Operations, Supply Chain, and Planning
