The aide assists the van driver in safely transporting clients to and from Day Program. An aide is needed on the van with students and / or individuals that have an IEP or other special circumstances.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for redirecting behaviors and physical safety of individuals while in transportation
- Assist in loading and unloading special needs individuals and to monitor their ride to and from Day Program
- Assist in managing the seating of the passengers so that everyone is safe and secure.
- Basic first aid
- Basic record keeping
- Oral and written communication skills
- Health and safety regulations
- Attend safety meetings
- High School diploma or equivalent
DISPATCH REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS
TactMust be patient and courteous with others, including, but not limited to parents, coworkers, and the general publicSitting for extended periods of timeHearing and speaking to exchange informationReaching, pulling and pushing to open van doors or windowsReaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontallyAbility to monitor passengers and safely operate a vehicleShould be in good physical condition to be able to secure wheelchair students (including tie downs), strapping a child into a car seat or booster seat, hooking up a child in a safety vest or fastening a seat beltMust check inside vehicle daily, front to back for any children or articles left behindShould be able to pick up a car seat either drag or carry a child out of the vehicle in an emergencyWORKING CONDITIONS
Working in outdoor environment (Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions)
