The City of Chico is currently seeking City Council approval for a lateral signing bonus of $50K. A rate increase of 2% will take effect on 07 / 13 / 2025. Rates included in this posting reflect that increase. This recruitment is to fill positions in the Chico Police Department. A complete application for this position requires :

POST accredited police academy graduate certifications labeled "Basic" or "Basic Academy", etc. are NOT equivalent to the State of CA Basic Certificate as listed above.)

Written exam assessments are waived for Lateral candidates; however, this recruitment will include completing a rigorous physical agility process. Candidates who have successfully completed a standardized WSTB course within the last six months may be exempted from the required agility course. Salary placement upon hire : Employees may expect to be placed on the salary range between steps A - C; however, additional steps may be considered based on prior education and experience. Physical demands while performing the duties of this job include sitting and talking and hearing. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, and / or tools listed above; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste and / or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move more than 100 pounds. Use of police car, police radio, radar gun, baton, handcuffs, Intoxilyzer, cellular phone and / or pager, first aid equipment, handgun, Taser and other weapons as required, and computer related equipment in the field and office environment. Environmental conditions while performing the duties of this job include working in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
