Position Overview :

MP Materials is seeking a Magnet Technology Technician to work in a one-of-a-kind magnet facility with world-class development equipment. The Magnet Technology Technician will support development of the technology and commercial-scale manufacturing footprint required to make high-performance permanent magnets for cutting-edge applications. The ideal candidate has experience working in a flexible, fast-paced manufacturing or laboratory environment and enjoys doing hands-on work. This position will support key projects across a broad range of initiatives, including development of materials for optimum performance, manufacturing process development and optimization, and more. This is an opportunity to be a part of the development team driving the creation of an advanced manufacturing facility and helping to define the future of American manufacturing.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Conduct experiments utilizing furnaces, metal processing equipment, machining equipment, gloveboxes, and wet chemical processes.
  • Execute test plans, make detailed observations, and communicate observations to leaders and teammates.
  • Install, commission, and operate equipment safely and properly.
  • Develop documentation for experimental procedures.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Maintain safe work practices.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Associate’s degree in Applied Science or related field, OR 3+ years of related experience. Entry level / Technical role : Advanced academic degrees are not required for consideration.
  • Experience operating laboratory and / or manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with computers and data entry and analysis.
  • Desired Qualities :

  • Experience working with metals, powders, chemicals, gloveboxes, furnaces, and / or machining equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic metallurgy, machining, and / or chemical processes and equipment.
  • Strong technical and communication skills to coordinate working with a variety of teammates, execute technical trials, and document processes and results.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented person who can solve problems, exercise sound judgement, and act autonomously in his / her daily work.
