Financial Assistant
Position Summary The Financial Assistant will provide direct support to Just Compassion's programs by managing day-to-day financial operations related to participant assistance. This role is responsible for processing payments, managing accounts receivable, ensuring accurate documentation of all receipts, and overseeing reimbursement procedures. The Financial Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring financial compliance, transparency, and accountability for program expenditures.
Key Responsibilities
Payment Processing & Accounts Receivable
Prepare, process, and cut checks for program-related expenses in a timely manner. Track and reconcile accounts receivable, ensuring the organization is reimbursed for all eligible expenditures. Coordinate with case managers and billing specialists to verify payment requests and supporting documentation.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain organized records of all receipts, invoices, and financial transactions. Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and external funding requirements, including Medicaid / HRSN guidelines. Assist in preparing financial reports and documentation for audits and funder reimbursements.
Communication & Coordination
Work closely with the Fiscal Director, Program Supervisors, and external vendors to resolve billing or payment discrepancies. Provide regular updates on outstanding receivables and reimbursements. Support staff with questions about payment requests, receipts, and documentation requirements.
General Finance Support
Assist with monthly reconciliations and financial tracking. Participate in continuous improvement of financial procedures to streamline efficiency and accuracy. Perform other finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field (or equivalent experience). 1-2 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable / receivable, or financial administration. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Preferred
Experience working with nonprofit organizations or social service programs. Knowledge of Medicaid / HRSN financial guidelines. Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
