What you’ll achieve

Dell is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Server Rack Engineer to join our dedicated team in Round Rock, TX. This role is integral to the success of our Global Services Delivery organization. As a Rack Engineer, you will be responsible for the complete and detailed design of rack-based compute, cloud and storage solutions. The design must consider requirements from various and often competing sources which include the Customer, the Integration Partner, Hardware and Logistics, all while applying Industry Standards and Dell Best Practices. The Rack Engineer will assume life cycle ownership of individual projects which include Requirements Discovery, Concept & Design, and Physical Build Sustaining.

Essential Requirements

  • Detailed design of rack layouts based on customer’s unique project requirements, Data Center or COLO constraints, transport & delivery limitations, serviceability and esthetics
  • Perform power budget analysis at the rack level as well as for individual PDU circuits within the rack
  • Perform center of mass and tip angle calculations to ensure safe transport and handling during delivery
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of rack configurations, including the build documents, hardware & cable BOMs, weight calculations, phase & load balancing
  • Work closely with the Integration partner to ensure the physical end product complies with all requirements and work instructions as detailed in the rack design

Skills

  • Ability to visualize and implement conceptual layouts to avoid potential conflicts and ensure maximum serviceability
  • Knowledge of Data Center operations with respect to power provisioning, Hot / Cold Aisle Mgmt, Routing of Inter-rack cabling, etc.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ISTA-2B / 3B, TIA-942, ANSI / BICSI, and ASHRAE guidelines
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and serviceability for rack server
  • Knowledge of liquid cooling solutions at server and facility levels

    • Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience will also be considered
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in server rack design, configuration, and maintenance within data center environments
  • Minimum 1-2 yrs of CAD and proficient in managing large assemblies
  • Advanced Excel knowledge and skills that allow for customization of template macro and formula driven automations

    • Compensation

    Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary range for this position :  $138,550 to $179,300.
