Inspector II - Public Works Operations & Maintenance
The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Inspector II to the Public Works Operations & Maintenance Team! As an Inspector II for this team, you will perform technical preliminary, interim, and final construction inspections for assigned engineering projects. These projects include roads, streets, appurtenant structures, catch basins, storm basins, bridges, drainage facilities, buildings, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, cross pans, and squared returns.
- This position is subject to budget-required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.
Work Schedule : Monday - Friday; 7 : 00AM - 3 : 30PM. Subject to on call / standby and emergency call out
Hiring Salary : $31.11 - $37.35

As an Inspector II for this team, you will :
Conduct technical inspections of construction, replacement, and repair projects in the public right-of-wayRespond to all grading complaints and thoroughly investigate to help resolve any conflicts that may ariseEnsure all construction activities meet City codes, engineering standards, and local, state, and federal environmental regulationsCoordinate with City staff, contractors, developers, and other agencies; provide technical guidance and documentation, including reports and recordsUnderstand storm drain operations, capabilities, and limitations of equipmentOperate a single / tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operationsPerform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, removing debris, and shoveling asphalt and snowLearn more about this job by reviewing the class specification on the City of Colorado Springs Class Specifications pageWe are looking for candidates who demonstrate :
Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive civil engineering inspection programBasic engineering designs and construction managementMethods and techniques of concrete and materials testing and analysis; asphalt overlay, repair, and maintenance; and soil aggregates and associated pavement materialsPertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulationsADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations and requirementsAbility to :
Work independently and as a member of a teamRead and interpret blueprintsCommunicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writingEstablish and maintain effective working relationshipsDemonstrate experience with exemplifying leadership, exceptional collaboration, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skillsMinimum Qualifications :
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related fieldPossess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictionsPreferred Qualifications :
An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering technology or a related fieldInspection certifications in material testing, especially in asphalt paving, concrete placement, and drainage maintenanceExperience with overseeing drainage functionsPossess upon hire and ability to maintain a valid non-probationary Colorado Class B CDL not subject to restriction related to alcohol and / or drug violations or pending chargesPhysical Demands : This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 lbs. frequently and sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. The ability to safely operate assigned vehicles is also required.
