Transportation Maintenance Worker
This position is being filled through a limited-term appointment. It may last up to two years with an opportunity to be extended but with no guarantee. It may also have the ability to go permanent but with no guarantee. The position will work full-time hours during the limited-term assignment. Under the direction of a crew leader, the position operates specialized bridge inspection equipment (Reach-all unit) in the performance of bridge inspection, bridge repair, and bridge maintenance assignments in accordance with the goals of Statewide Bridge Maintenance and Preservation. Maintains equipment and provides storage and security for the unit. Performs basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Sets up traffic control when needed to perform the work. This position requires participation in the Transportation Maintenance Worker Element program. This position requires statewide travel and availability outside normal working hours for maintenance operations in all weather conditions. This position operates a vehicle or vehicle / trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more when performing bridge inspection, bridge repair, and bridge maintenance activities.
The salary listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the recruit level through the maximum rate at the experienced level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.
Education typically acquired through completion of high school. No specific type or amount of experience is required. The MDOT Statewide Work Element Coordinator must approve satisfactory completion of the MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification program.
All newly hired state employees are required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug test, physical (if applicable), prior to their actual appointment. Criminal and driving records will also be checked if applicable. Any position offer will be conditional until results of the drug test, physical, criminal background, and driving records indicate eligibility for employment.
