Company Description

From the middle of America, Swanson Russell, a full-service marketing communications and advertising agency, produces ideas that grab attention from coast to coast. Our crew of big thinkers, go-getters and team players uncover the insights that unleash new possibilities for brands. It’s how we build genuine trust that strengthens over time. Overview

The Web Developer will work in close collaboration with designers, producers, and other developers to build new and maintain existing websites and web apps. Our primary technologies are Javascript (mostly React), Node.js and PHP. We’re full-stack developers, so some ability with front-end coding (not design) is often useful, too.

We believe in code quality, good planning, transparent collaboration, and balancing client needs with the reality of long-term maintenance.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates are :

  • Open to working on a collaborative and process-oriented team.
  • Passionate about coding, website, the Internet, and technology in general.
  • Comfortable working with at least one of our core technologies (PHP, Javascript).
  • Familiar and capable with a modern framework such as React or Vue for Javascript, Laravel or Symfony for PHP, etc.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Highly motivated to learn and contribute within a structured but mostly independent environment.

Bonus points for any of these extra attributes :

  • Experience with custom development using popular open-source CMS platforms (e.g. Drupal, WordPress). Ideally this would be on new, from-scratch projects rather than maintaining or contributing to existing projects.
  • Familiar with modern front-end coding techniques, tools and languages (e.g. SASS, Flexbox / Grid, NPM / Webpack, HTML5 APIs, etc).
  • Prior experience working in a project-based industry such as marketing / advertising agencies, development company, on a dedicated internal marketing team, or equivalent.
  • Experience using, implementing and / or contributing to any open-source project or equivalent team-based effort.
