Overview
The Community Relations Intern will play a key role in supporting the Cosmos’ outreach and engagement efforts across North Jersey. Working directly with the Manager of Community Relations, this individual will assist in building relationships with local schools, nonprofits, youth soccer clubs, and civic organizations to strengthen the Cosmos’ community presence.
This position is ideal for a student who is passionate about community development, event planning, youth engagement, and the intersection of sports and social impact.
Learning Objectives & Experiences
Community Engagement & Outreach :
- Learn how professional sports organizations connect with their communities through partnerships, activations, and service.
- Assist in coordinating and executing community events including school programs, volunteer days, and nonprofit collaborations.
- Help maintain communication with community partners, ensuring timely updates and follow-ups.
- Support the creation and organization of community databases, outreach materials, and volunteer sign-ups.
- Participate in outreach to local soccer clubs, community organizations, and schools to promote Cosmos initiatives.
Event Support & Representation :
Represent the Cosmos at community events, festivals, and partner activations.Assist in setting up and staffing Cosmos tents, giveaways, and engagement stations.Help coordinate logistics for events such as PE Takeovers, and local soccer tournaments.Gain experience managing small-scale event operations and community-facing activities.Communications & Promotion :
Support the development of community-focused content, including flyers, social media highlights, and partner spotlights.Document community events through photos, videos, and recaps to share with marketing and communications teams.Learn how community impact stories are integrated into broader marketing and PR strategies.Help prepare thank-you communications, recaps, and reports for partners and stakeholders.Qualifications :
Currently pursuing a degree in Community Development, Communications, Public Relations, Sports Management, or a related field.Strong interpersonal and communication skills; bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus.Comfortable engaging with youth, families, and community organizations.Organized, reliable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.Availability to assist during select evenings, weekends, and matchdays.Passionate about sports, community impact, and building meaningful local connections.What You’ll Gain :
