Job Description
The Manual Machinist (Night Shift) works independently on common operations and is responsible for converting raw materials to a finished milled product while ensuring conformance to design specifications in an accurate and timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce machined components to specifications by studying sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information.
- Operating all sizes of manual lathes is required. Experience with additional manual machines is highly desirable, including Horizontal Mill or Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM), Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL), and Knee Milling Machines.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Read and interpret shop work instructions and shop procedures.
- Review quality issues with quality assurance, manufacturing support, and engineering to resolve quality issues and take corrective actions as required.
- Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used for machining work.
- Measure, examine and test completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Successfully complete Operator Safety Training of Powered Industrial Equipment Training Course.
- Significant overtime and weekend work required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses repair, and maintenance.Considerable knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control.Ability to apply general rules to solve problems.Ability to stand, crouch, and bend for 8-hour shifts.Must be able to lift up to 40 Lbs. on occasion.Basic computer skills.Strong attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication.Education and Qualifications
High School or GED required.5+ years of relevant experience as a manual machinist.Must be able to read, write and speak English.
