Job Description

The Environmental Research Group, LLC (ERG) Team is hiring! We seek energetic, hardworking, talented archaeologists to join our reservoir survey project near Texarkana, Texas. We care about our team and try our best to provide an environment built on trust, expertise, gratitude, and flexibility.

We are seeking qualified Field Archaeologists for a Phase I shovel testing inventory on rural federal and state managed property with direct monitoring of in-field work by project stakeholders. Applications for this project extending greater than six months in duration are being considered. Pay for federal contract work is based on SCA WD for that location, typically $21 to $27 per hour plus a Health and Welfare ($4.57 per hour) benefit (on federal projects). Lodging and meal stipend are based on contract GSA rates for project location. Lodging is always single occupancy and covered by ERG. Meal stipend is a direct deposit.

ERG is a service-disabled veteran-owned (SDVO), economically disadvantaged woman-owned (EDWO) and small business (SB). Founded in 2000, ERG provides environmental and cultural resources consulting services. We are a value-driven, employee first company.

  • Position requires a minimum of a B.A. in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field with experience in archaeology.
  • Archaeologists will be expected to travel (time paid, no mileage) to the project location on the day fieldwork starts. Fieldwork will consist of a pedestrian survey with shovel testing.
  • You must be able to walk 4 to 8 miles a day for survey work in heavy vegetation, excavate shovel tests (35 cm in diameter and up to 100 cm deep in wet conditions), screen dirt from 10–20 cm levels through a 1 / 4 " mesh screen. You will use hand-held devices to record shovel test depth, soil characteristics and Munsell colors by level, and record artifacts in detail found at every level.
  • Survey will involve documentation of numerous archaeological sites with varying methods depending on the nature of the site, and the ability to identify and describe precontact and postcontact period artifacts is expected.
  • All field staff will be expected to carry their own measuring tape (metric required), trowels, backpack, water bottles, and lunch / snacks. Comfortable hiking boots / waterproof boots, and long-sleeved shirts / pants are highly recommended.
  • Veterans are encouraged to apply.

Please submit an application, along with a resume or vita and three references.

ERG, LLC is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability or protected veteran status. We participate in the E-Verify Employment Verification Program.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
