Job Summary :
The Non Profit Experienced Tax Manager is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex non-profit tax issues. In this role, the Non Profit Experienced Tax Manager is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax disclosure, exemption and unrelated business income issues, and recognizing, communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation and resolution of questions from federal / state agencies. In addition, the Non Profit Experienced Tax Manager will be critical member of the regional Nonprofit Tax team and actively participate in the marketing and networking within an area of expertise and specialization while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.
Job Duties : Tax Compliance :
- Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”)
- Conducts review of T / R’s and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate
- Plans for early recognition of material tax and compliance issues and consults with the client and / or partner as appropriate
- Review of ASC 740-10 (Uncertain Tax Positions) workpapers and disclosure for audited financial statements
- Plans and reviews the tax process and the procedures to be performed to include : Budgeting and staffing Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior Timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to client Timely collection of A / R Manages client relationships / expectations in accordance with the project Provides advice to clients in a timely manner
Research :

Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, ., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing nonprofit tax benefitsReviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of actionResearches and implements nonprofit tax strategies, including experimentation with promising new strategies and ideasIdentifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects, and offers input on how to improve processes and methodsOther duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities :

Education :
Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferredMaster’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferredExperience :
Six (6) or more years of nonprofit tax experience and / or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting / professional services experience, requiredPrior supervisory experience, requiredLicense / Certifications :
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), requiredPossession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferredSoftware :
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferredExperience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferredOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
