Our client, an Am Law 100 firm, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent or Patent Counsel with a strong technical background in biophysics, biomedical engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, or AI / ML to join its IP Transactions and Patent Prosecution practice.
An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge innovations in the life sciences and technology sectors while advising a global client base on strategic patent matters.
Key Responsibilities :
Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications across all stages of the patent lifecycle.
Collaborate directly with inventors to take disclosures and translate technical concepts into strategic IP protection.
Conduct and analyze prior art searches to support patentability and freedom-to-operate assessments.
Communicate with clients and inventors to manage portfolios and ensure alignment with business and R&D goals.
Stay current on changes in U.S. and international patent laws and provide guidance on legal document drafting.
Key Qualifications :
Minimum 3 years of experience as a registered Patent Agent or Patent Counsel; 5+ years preferred.
Technical background or degree in biophysics, biomedical engineering, computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, or artificial intelligence / machine learning.
Demonstrated expertise in patent application drafting, prosecution, and patent strategy.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact directly with clients and internal teams.
Excellent academic credentials and analytical capabilities.
Additional Requirements :
Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.
Attorney candidates must be admitted to the California Bar and in good standing.

Package Details : Compensation :
Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The full-time base annual salary for this position is expected to range between $180,000 and $250,000 for Patent Agents, and between $180,000 and $300,000 for Patent Attorneys.
This range represents the firm's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting for the position. Bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed and dependent upon individual and firm performance.
