JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE : Teacher REPORTS TO : School Principal JOB GOAL : To implement an effective educational program for the designated grade level and subject area(s) using the designated course of study, appropriate materials and resources, and best instructional practices
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must meet applicable federal and state certification / qualification requirements for the position
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce / submit required reports, correspondence, and / or financial information
- Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state and federal law and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and prioritiesDemonstrates competent knowledge of the structure of the academic discipline related to assigned subject-matter content areasDemonstrates competent knowledge of the Alabama courses of study and locally developed curriculum guides related to the teaching assignmentAnchors content knowledge in learning experiences that are meaningful and engagingDefines clear goals and objectives for unit and daily lesson plansProvides accommodations, modifications, and / or adaptations to the curriculum requiredUses students' prior knowledge and experiences to introduce new subject-area content and present instructional experiences that are designed to be motivating and engaging for those studentsImplements developmentally appropriate instructional strategiesUtilizes a variety of flexible student groupings to support differentiated instructionUtilizes ongoing formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional plans accordinglyCollaborates with other teachers to interpret and use student data for instructional planning and program evaluationAdministers all school, District, and state-required assessments in accordance with required proceduresFacilitates students' individual and collaborative use of technology to support learningPositively models the appropriate and responsible use of technologyCreates a classroom environment that values and responds to cultural, ethnic, gender, linguistic, and socio-economic differences and recognizes the impact of these differences on individual learner needs, preferences, and stylesExpects and responds to a broad range of student academic and behavioral needs in the classroom and provides accommodations to individual students as requiredInvolves parents and / or families as active partners in planning and supporting student learningActively participates in collaborative professional learning communities to increase student achievement and grow professional expertiseActively engages in ongoing, continuous professional learningUses and maintains confidential information in accordance with state and federal law and local Board policyPractices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical use of technology following the Hoover City Schools' Acceptable Use AgreementMaintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate mannerProperly cares for equipment and material resources of the school systemAdheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local lawsPerforms other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
