SUMMARY :

Assess and treat persons with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. May select alternative communication systems and teach their use. May perform research related to speech and language problems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

Responsibilities to Resident / Patients / Clients

  • Monitor Residents / patients / clients progress and adjust treatments accordingly.
  • Evaluate hearing and speech / language test results and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders.
  • Record information on evaluations, treatments, progress and discharge of residents / patients / clients.
  • Consult with and advise rehab / nursing staff and family members on strategies for speech and language stimulation.
  • Instruct residents / patients / clients and staff in more effective communication for all concerned.
  • Teach residents / patients / clients to control or strengthen tongue, jaw, face muscles, and breathing mechanisms.
  • Develop speech exercise programs to reduce disabilities.
  • Record Keeping / Training Opportunities

  • Complete and maintain necessary records.
  • Evaluate resident / outpatient progress and prepare reports that detail progress.
  • Provide training and supervision in therapy techniques, and objectives for nursing and non-nursing staff within the facility.
  • Advise on health risks in the workplace.
  • Safety

  • Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United.
  • Identifies, reports, and / or corrects obvious safety hazards.
  • Attends mandatory safety in-services.

  • Employee Responsibilities

  • Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
  • Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Rehab
  • Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS : Minimum Requirements

    Must be a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Montana.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

    Requires moderate physical work more than 50% of the time, including lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Work involves some exposure to hazards, blood borne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Normal health care environment.
  • Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment.
