Responsibilities
The individual shall read and interpret blueprints and sketches to install all piping systems aboard the ship.
The individual shall perform shop prefabrication on piping systems utilizing sketches and templates developed from blueprints and ship checks.
The individual shall possess knowledge and understanding of tag-out procedures for piping systems, utilizing sketches and templates developed from blueprints prior to engaging with the ship's piping system. The individual shall be capable of accomplishing the tag-out of systems deemed safe for work in accordance with the Work Authorization Form (WAF).
The individual shall be proficient in silver-brazing (Grades 3, 4, and 5).
The individual shall demonstrate knowledge of pipe bending and possess the ability to bend piping manually or by machine, utilizing templates and sketches while packing piping to prevent contortion.
The individual shall possess knowledge of P-1 and Level 1 piping systems.
The individual shall have the ability to conduct hydrostatic testing of piping systems.
The individual shall possess the ability to fit and install mechanically attached fittings.
The individual shall have the ability to thread piping and tap holes to the appropriate sizes.
The individual shall possess the ability to prepare piping for welding using grinders or beveling machines and shall understand the various types of bevels. The individual shall fit and install backing rings and E.B. rings.
The individual shall install pipe hangers and supports in accordance with applicable hanger drawings.
The individual shall possess knowledge of various types of pipes and fitting materials, as well as the proper material application concerning piping system requirements. The individual shall be knowledgeable of MIL-STD-777, which outlines the various types of pipes and fitting materials and their appropriate applications in relation to piping system requirements.
The individual shall possess the ability to properly fit flanged joints, including the appropriate gaskets and fasteners.
The individual shall have the ability to set up and perform hot water flushing on silver-brazed piping systems.
The individual shall possess knowledge of bolting requirements, including various material types and requirements for flange bolting.
