Lead EHS Specialist

Job Description Summary

The Lead EHS Specialist will provide direction and assistance to work groups in order to meet assigned this role you will work within defined parameters to make decisions apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning. Subject matter experts will generally fall into this category.

Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning / execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Act as the Sites technical expert on Environment Health & Safety (EHS) issues by providing input to Site EHS Focal Point and / or site management.
• Serve as the lead for the sites wastewater and hazardous waste programs.
• Initiate and influence integration of related policies and practices into the business.
• Assist in implementation of programs and procedures to ensure compliance related to specific disciplines.
• Develop and maintain general knowledge of existing and proposed regulations for Environmental Health & Safety.
• Assist consultants and contractors on related issues.
• Administer compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems.
• Assist in conducting education programs related to specific disciplines.
• Assist in issue resolution.
• Individuals with expertise in a specific area such as industrial hygiene injury & illness ergonomics electrical safety process safety management etc. and / or providing general health & safety advice and support for multiple sites or a region.
• Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy / strategy.
• In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own -depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
• Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
• A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
