Pipe Layers are responsible forinstalling pipe in storm sewers gas utilities and water mains. Laborers must have physical strength endurance and must also be able to concentrate on their tasks. Assist Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties under close supervision

Typical Duties :

• Digging spreading and leveling dirt sand and gravel using a pick shovel or rake
• Installs removes and maintains a variety of erosion control products.
• Lift carry and hold construction materials tools and supplies
• Clean tools equipment material in work area
• Positioning cutting and connecting pipe
• Maintaining depth by checking the laser beam or grade stakes and communicating with the operator
• Cementing around pipes and inlets
• Communicating with the operator about the alignment of the pipe by using hand signals to ensure the proper depth
• Inspecting the pipe fittings to ensure it is defect free and clean
• Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tamping soil jackhammering and assisting in the connecting of pipe.
• Work harmoniously co-operatively and courteously with others at all times
• Perform miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities as required
• Operates manual material handling equipment such as hand jacks and wheeled carts
• Assists in lifting positioning and securing of materials and work pieces.
• Perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities with tools and equipment.
