Summer Intern - Major Capital Projects Department
The Major Capital Projects (MCP) Department is seeking a summer intern to support its Construction Logistics team. This internship offers hands-on exposure to construction logistics and community-facing functions that support some of the region's most complex transportation infrastructure projects including the Midtown Bus Terminal Redevelopment. Interns will work alongside experienced Port Authority professionals, gaining experience in construction logistics, community affairs, construction tech adoption, public administration, and city planning issues in one of the world's busiest urban regions. This role sits at the center of MCP's mission to deliver major construction projects effectively and efficiently, offering valuable experience for students interested in construction in an urban setting, public service, or infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Support and develop tech adoption strategies within the Port Authority Major Capital Projects Department.
Develop materials alongside both Port Authority Social Media and Marketing teams.
Support DOT permit logging efforts for the Midtown Bus Terminal Redevelopment.
Coordinate with the "Community Connectors" program in support of the Midtown Bus Terminal Redevelopment.
Work with Port Authority architecture and design team to support communication strategies for various capital projects.
Update capital projects website with project updates related to current construction activities.
Support AI and Construction Tech adoption initiatives.
Other assignments as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
Major in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Political Science or related discipline
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Power BI, and SharePoint.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand and navigate interdepartmental dynamics, interagency relationships, and community engagement needs.
Proven capability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels, build productive relationships, and work constructively with both peers and senior leadership.
Ability to produce clear, accurate technical documents for internal use as well as accessible, well-crafted materials intended for public audiences.
Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
Interest in public service and / or transportation
Internship Details
The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026.
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day).
In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship @type and rising school year).
