GIS Specialist and Data Specialist

Under general direction of a Senior Transportation Surveyor (or equivalent), the GIS Specialist and Data Specialist's main function is to design spatial applications using the Department's geospatial analytical tools (e.g., ESRI applications) to deliver processes and products that solve complex problems and provide information to management. Incumbent will independently develop and utilize methodology and techniques in areas where precedents are lacking and a sparse body of knowledge exists.

Working Conditions

Position located at 2015 E Shields Ave, Fresno, Fresno County.

The incumbent will spend the majority of their time working in an office environment with artificial lighting and climate controlled temperature. Travel to outlying offices will be in state vehicles unless other prior arrangements are made. Vacation and other leave my be restricted during peak work times.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
