Apparel Materials Developer Responsibilities

  • Partner with design teams to translate creative requests into functional textile solutions.
  • Manage development of fabrics across knits, wovens, ribs, and printed textiles from concept through commercialization.
  • Oversee multiple seasonal material lines, balancing project timelines and priorities.
  • Communicate regularly with international vendors via email and video conferencing to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design, technical design, program management, and color development.

Apparel Materials Developer Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in material development within apparel, textiles, or accessories.
  • Proven ability to interpret and execute design team requests into workable material applications.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fabric development processes, including knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and finishing.
  • Experience working with overseas vendors and managing cross-seasonal projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Smartsheet or similar tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of industry fabric trends, material testing processes, and data interpretation is preferred.
  • Passion for textiles and an eagerness to contribute creative and technical insights.
