O&M / Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician

The Tejas Energy Center is a 247 MW simple-cycle gas-fired electric generating facility. It features three Simple Cycle LM6000 PC units totaling approximately 126 MW. Additionally, it has a Siemens 501 D5 gas turbine with a total capacity of 121 MW, equipped with automatic generation control (AGC), evaporative cooling, water injection for NOx control, and a selective catalytic reduction unit. Utilizing the Allen-Bradley PLC series of controllers, the plant plays a critical role in supporting peak energy demands within the Houston Zone of ERCOT.

Opportunity Summary

The O&M / Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician position offers an opportunity to play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of turbine generators, with a focus on LM6000 turbines and their associated systems. This role demands strong electrical expertise, including the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and systems up to 480V.

The position involves hands-on work with MCCs, switchgear, circuit protection devices, and grounding systems to support the plant’s electrical infrastructure. It also includes diagnosing issues within turbine control systems, utilizing advanced instrumentation tools, and interpreting complex schematics such as P&IDs and PLC logic.

Your scope of responsibility as O&M / EC&I Technician will include the following primary functions :

Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Systems Maintenance

• Conduct real-time troubleshooting and analysis of turbine control systems, auxiliary equipment, and electrical systems ranging from 24V instrumentation to 480V motors and MCC (Motor Control Center) buckets.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on LM6000 turbines, auxiliary skids, and other major plant systems.
• Inspect, install, repair, and remove motors, generators, transformers, switches, wiring, and control equipment for systems up to 480V.
• Read and interpret control logic, ladder logic, PLC diagrams, and schematics—especially those associated with LM6000 systems.
• Utilize advanced instrumentation tools—such as Fluke 789, Fluke 87, Fluke 725, Trex, PieCal 820 / 830 / 850, and oscilloscopes—for diagnostics, calibration, and system analysis.
• Support control system expansions and the integration of LM6000 turbine and auxiliary systems within the facility.

Working Relationships

The O&M / EC&I Technician reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates will all other plant personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks / respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The O&M / EC&I Technician follows a Monday-to-Friday schedule, rotating through three overlapping 8-hour shifts : first shift from 6 : 00 AM to 2 : 00 PM, second shift from 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 00 PM, and third shift from 4 : 00 PM to 12 : 00 AM. Position may require extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $37.93 to $53.00 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
